The PLEX-ID Biothreat assay is a qualitative, non-diagnostic assay intended for the detection and identification of important biothreat agents through nucleic acid amplification and subsequent mass spectrometry analysis. The PLEX-ID Biothreat assay is designed to detect and identify 17 bacterial and viral biothreat agents and distinguish them from their near neighbors.

*Magnetic beads and clean-up reagents are included with the T5000 assay but must be purchased separately for use with the PLEX-ID assay.

The PLEX-ID Biothreat assay kit includes:

  • 5 Plates (30 Assays)
  • Plate Processing Protocol
  • RT-PCR Enzyme Dilution Buffer
  • RNA Dilution Buffer
  • PLEX-ID DNA Polymerase
  • Superscript® III Reverse Transcriptase
  • T-4 Gene 32 Protein

Positive, negative, or extraction controls are not provided.

The PLEX-ID Biothreat assay uses 33 primer pairs multiplexed into sixteen wells to detect and identify the following threat agents:

  • Bacteria: Bacillus anthracis, Brucella mellitensis, Burkholderia mallei/B. pseudomallei, Clostridium botulinum, Clostridium perfringens, Coxiella burnetii, Francisella tularensis, Rickettsia typhi/R. prowazeki, Vibrio cholerae, Yersinia pestis, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Shigella flexneri, and Salmonella enterica
  • Viruses: Ebola Marburg virus, Variola virus, Influenza A virus H5N1 (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1), Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis virus

This assay is designed to report the 17 threat agents, plus more than 100 near neighbor organisms. Please note that some near neighbor organisms may be reported as a cluster of indistinguishable organisms (for example B. cereus/B. thuringiensis).
